Eisteddfod has become a tradition among so many locals and holiday goers. Find out why. Be part of the largest cultural event in the city and in the country – the Gold Coast Eisteddfod – as it takes place at Robina and Albert Waterways Community Centres and Arts Centre Gold Coast from July 28th to September 9th, 2016.
Since it began as a part of ‘Tropicarnival’ in 1982, Gold Coast City’s first ever Festival, the Eisteddfod has eventually grown to become the largest competition of its kind the country. Participants from the south east Queensland region and indeed from all states of Australia look forward to being chosen to perform. Besides the individual entrants, there are about 158 Primary and Secondary Schools and more than 70 Dance Studios who eagerly participate in sections which include Solo and Group Dance, Piano, Strings, Brass & Wind, Instrumental Groups, Bands, Orchestras, Vocal, Choral and Special Needs.
The Eisteddfod has forged links with the Welsh International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, and is poised to welcome 70,000 performers this year. The festival will be highlighted by the 'The Musicale' at The Theatre Arts Centre, and will feature the outstanding performers in one spectacular concert on October 16th.
